Bewitched

This week's scripture:
Revelation 21:8  But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts,  the idolaters and all liars - their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

October is almost here. What is the big holiday coming up? Holloween! This is a holiday where ghosts, goblins, and witches are celebrated.  There are a lot of bad things I could say about Holloween, but this study isn't about Holloween. There is something just as bad happening this week. The new TV season! I have been bombed this week with the ads for the new TV shows coming out. More and more shows are coming out about witches, monsters, homosexuality, the occult, psychics, and generally bad behavior. Even the so called good shows has kids that are rebellious and sinful.

Is magic a sin? IN MY OPINION, the magicians that are just tricking you are OK. There are even Christian preachers that use tricks to share the good news about Jesus. But anyone that uses spells, or says their tricks are from a supernatural power, are sinning. Like Sabrina, the teenage witch. Isn't there even a cartoon about her? And people that practice Wicca, Satanism, fortune tellers, and so forth.

I owe you an apology.  Satan is using TV, cartoons, movies, colleges, video games, card games, even religion and the US Constitution to spread this evil and send people to hell. I (and millions like me, and our parents) might have been able to slow down, or even stop this junk. When I was a kid there was a show called "Bewitched" on the TV. Millions of us thought it was a harmless TV show that was really funny. We thought seances were just for fun. We thought an Ouija board (I found a web site where over 800 people told of their experiences with this Parker Bros. game. Most were scared away from it, a lot said it helped them contact spirits easier) was a harmless toy. WRONG! And we were Christians! We could have banded together 30 years ago and stopped some of this stuff. Because we didn't our TV's are loaded with shows of immorality and witch craft. Our games are full of violence and witchcraft. Even children's books (Harry Potter) are full of this stuff, and accepted.

This stuff isn't new. All those TV commercials you see for psychics, tarot readers, fortune tellers and so forth aren't new. Most of them are really just good liars that rip you off for money. Some of them actually are for real. Paul and Silas ran across one in the 16th chapter of Acts. This was a slave girl that made her masters a whole lot of money because she told the future. She was a real fortune teller because she had an evil spirit inside of her. Paul prayed and sent the spirit out of her and she couldn't tell the future any more. No more TV commercials for her!

Stay away from the hocus pocus! Stay away from the psychics (even the ones who lie and say they are Christians), the witches, the witch TV shows, the video games with demons (there might be one in the game looking for a human to get into), clubs that praise the environment (like Wicca).

I wish I could help more. If I were full time at this I might could review all of the shows, movies, books, games, that are thrown at you. I can't. You are going to have to seek the Holy Spirit's help on this one. If you get the feeling that something isn't right about the cartoon you are watching, turn channels! It might be the Holy Spirit guiding you.

If you are a Christian, you don't need a psychic to tell your future, the Bible already does! You don't need to say spells for power, the Holy Spirit has already given it to you!

This week's prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to me. Help me to know what I shouldn't watch on TV. Help me to know who and what to stay away from.
 Amen.

The State Fair
This story includes Crazy Larry, Fred Red, Katie, and Tonya

It was October, and time for the state fair! Everyone was really excited. There was hot dogs and ice cream. There were Ferris wheels and horse rides. There were games like ring the bottle and the dart throw. Everyone from Kids4God was there and having a great time.

Crazy Larry and Joey were trying to shoot out little stars on a target with BB guns. Tonya and Katie came up with Fred Red. Fred Red was having a great time. He had never been to a fair before.

"Human Larry, human Joey! This is so much fun! The bright lights! The games! The food!"
"Yeah, Fred Red. Haven't you ever been to a fair before?" asked Joey.
"No human Joey. We do not have fairs on my planet."
Tonya laughed, "You should have seen Fred Red eat cotton candy for the first time. It was so funny!"
"And you should have seen how big his eyes were at the top of the Ferris wheel! He was scared to death!" said Katie.
"You mean you've been in a space ship, but a little old Ferris wheel scared you?" asked Crazy Larry.
"Well, human Larry, it was quite different. What have you boys been doing?"
"I just got here," answered Joey, "but Larry has been here all day."
"Yeah, I've done a lot of stuff. Do you want to go see the bearded lady with me?" Replied Crazy Larry.
 "The bearded lady, human Larry?"
"The bearded lady, she's right beside the snake man."
"Maybe later, human Larry. Right now humans Tonya and Katie and I are going to ride the ponies."
"If you want to go with Joey and me you are going to have to hurry."
 "Why Larry?" asked Katie.
 "Yeah, Larry, why?" asked Joey.
"Because when I went to the palm reader earlier there was too long of a line. I made an appointment to see her at 9:00." Larry answered.
"A palm reader!" Katie, Tonya, and Joey said in unison.
"What is a palm reader, human Larry?"
"Oh, this one is cool. She has a crystal ball, tarot cards, and everything. She can tell your future by reading your hand. She might even be able to talk to dead people about you!"
"That is very dangerous!" said Tonya.
Crazy Larry answered, "It's just for fun."
 "It's scary," said Katie.
 "It's weird." said Joey.
"It's a sin," said Fred Red.
"What?" said everybody except Fred Red.
"I have been studying the Bible, humans. Such things like these are evil. Demons are what tells this person the future."
"It's all fake, and just for a good scare." said Joey.
"Nope. She can really tell the future." said Crazy Larry.
 "So can I, human Larry."
"What do you mean Fred Red?"
"The Bible says that people like her, and the people that follow her, are going to hell!" replied Fred Red.
 "That's even scarier," said Katie.
"You see, human Larry, if you will accept Jesus into your heart, you won't need your future told. You will know what the future holds for you, Heaven!"
"You guys are starting to preach again. I'm leaving." Crazy Larry said as he walked away.
"Do you know why Larry wants to go to the fortune teller, and you don't human Christians?"
 "No, why?" asked Tonya.
"Because the Holy Spirit quietly told you that it was wrong, and you listened."
"I guess you are right, Fred Red." said Katie.
Joey perked up, "Hey, enough of this. Let's go ride the Merry go round!"
 And they did.
